Medela, and if you can afford to...avoid the manual. Good Luck!

Yes - there is a HUGE difference. If you are going to pump for a long time or pump after you go back to work, you need an electric - it is much faster and easier to use. They are more expensive, but if you breastfeed for a couple months, it is still cheaper than formula. I recommend the Medela. It does not even look like a breast pump and is pretty light weight. I dont' know if you can buy this at Babies R Us - you may have to buy elsewhere on-line - a lot of hospitals sell them too.

If you are going to be away from your baby (ie, work, school, whatever), and plan on breastfeeding long term, go with an expensive medela. It's SO worth the extra cost. If it's just to stock up milk, a manual would work fine.

I'm currenty breastfeeding, and I have a Medela Pump in Style. I work 8 hrs a day, and I pump once around 9 am, once at noon, and once at 2 or 3 in the afternoon . I can't imagine if I had a hand pump! Double electric is the way to go. Good luck ! :)

One last thing--depending on your insurance--I have Blue Cross Blue Shield, there's a program called "Better Beginnings" through them, and I got my almost $300.00 pump for free! (As well as postpartum housekeepers, the whole "What to Expect.." series, dvd's, etc.) Worth it!!

The Avent pumps, Ameda pumps, and Medela pumps are the best on the market. Most of the others don't get good suction. Getting manual or electric depends on how often you intend to pump. A manual is good just for occasional but if you are going back to work and want to continue breastfeeding then you need a good electric pump. you can also rent pumps from medical supply stores.
See if the hospital you are delivering at has a lactation consultant on staff. Ask to talk to them after you deliver and ask what they recommend when it comes to pumping. you can also contact the La Leche League.
Good Luck and Congrats!

depends. do you plan on going back to work? Do you want to mostly breast feed but want daddy to give an occasional bottle every day? Or will this be a "just in case" pump. If you will be going back to work and you want to keep bfing, get an electric double pump, medela is pricy, but the best! If you will be a saty at home mommy, a manual pump will do fine for you. They are slightly harder to use, but once you get used to them its easy. An electric will be more efficient than an manual, so if you want to save time you may consider that as well. Good luck!!

Get the Medela Pump In Style. It's probably the most expensive one but it's worth its weight in gold. Even if you're planning on only pumping one bottle a week, you never know what's going to happen. I planned on breastfeeding exclusively and only got the Avent hand pump for the occasional bottle for my hubby. Then my son was born and refused to latch for two weeks. The Avent was useless, despite it's great reviews, and after I turned in my hospital grade pump I got the Medela. It was a lifesafer. So, if you're going to be pumping for any reason, I say go for the Medela.

Congtatulations on your little one's future arrival!

I had a pump in style by Medela - wonderful. But it was bulky! Register also for a hand-held manual for travel, if you intend on visiting family. I liked my Medela Harmony.

No, you do not prefer an costly pump. you do not likely *prefer* a pump in any respect. i could probable try hand-expressing first. If that is merely the occassional bottle, which will probable meet your desires. in case you detect you won't be able to hand-convey nicely, or discover it a worry, any small electric pump could artwork. (BTW, you do not could pump in case you have a pair of beverages. you could thoroughly nurse your toddler.)

i had the 'Soothie' made by The First Years. i absolutely loved it because i felt like i got the maximum amount of milk out with the least amount of pumping compared to the piece of crap the hospital sent me home with. i know the electric ones are convenient but i think they're pretty expensive. and the one i had was around $25 and it comes with 2 bottles.
