should i go with a 7900gs on or 8600gt on xp?

[also would DX10 be worth the vista's poor stability]

Personally i dont know if i want to go vista. Im just curious how the higher-end last gen stacks up with a mid range next gen.

I'm shocked at the 8600GTs performance against the 7600GT. I knew the 8600GTs wern't very good, and I knew that the 7900GS would beat it, but I'm still shocked that it lost to a 7600GT.

That being said, as better drivers come out for the 8600GT, it's performance in comparisson will go up. The 8600GT was not lower in every benchmark either.

DX10 at the moment is not worth the issues with Vista. Barely anything uses DX10.

The 7900GS will give better performance, but then when you want DX10 you'll have to upgrade again. Now, this isn't that bad of a thing, because when that time comes you'll have better and cheaper options, so that's not all bad.

If you think upgrading again later is going to cause a problem, get the 8600GT, if not, go for the 7900GS.

here is a comparison between a 7600gt and a 8600gt to give you an idea. Considering the 7900gs is faster than the 7600gt then you will be able to draw a conclusion from this.

If you dont want to read this, then basically the 7600gt is faster than the 8600gt and basically the 7900gs is a lot faster than the 8600gt. If you do not plan on playing directx 10 games for a little while i would suggest getting the 7900gs
