Is there anything besides the type of connection (mine is PATA) I need to look at?

they really never call it pata, they call it IDE or just ATA. theres also SATA... if your computers not pretty new i dont think u would have that, easiest way to tell is the size, a ide connecter is a big wide connection attached to a ribbon cable, an sata is a tiny connection like 9 pins or something usually on a red cable no wider than a pencil

size limitations... and connection are the main things.
if you have a newer system the limitations are not such a problem.

no any hard drive works with any operating system, it just matters about the connection
