I used a factory-made and recommended touch up paint pen on my car for the small chips on the hood and it looks worse than it did! Help! What can I do to smooth the paint? I tried polishing it out but that didn't work! Any ideas? Thanks!

thousand grit and fifteen hundred grit sand paper. use a spray bottle of water with a bit of soap. sand wet using a block, get the touch up almost level to the paint then switch to the fifteen hundred grit. sand lightly, wet, until flush. wash the area and your car then wax with a GOOD carnuba wax. Take your time and it will look great.

a quicker fix is. Remove the ugly paint you put on there. Go to the art store and find the thinnest artist brush they have. Use that to dab the paint in the chips. Use as little paint as possible. If your paint is the exact paint code as your car than this will work good. There are mobile guys too that can do it for you.

Those pens are crap. I tried one on a car I use to have and it totally didn't work. Almost looked worse than the scratch itself! You need to go to a body shop and see what they can do.

Take it to a body shop and let them take care of it. They have the equipment and the expertise to do the job right.

There is not a lot you can do. Touch up is there to disguise the blemish - not erase it.
