I wanted to know what the money situation is like. I am wondering if It's easier to use cash or a credit card. I have a mastercard and a Visa

I will be visiting Rio, Salvador, Manaus, and Iguassu Falls. Which of these places accept which type of payment?

In other words, when I'm in each of these cities whats the best method of payment that I should use?

I used my ATM/Debit card in Rio and Salvador, haven't been to the other two places. My guess is you'll be able to widely use your credit card in any part of brazil that gets a lot of tourist traffic. Manaus may be iffy, Iguassu Falls will probably be fine.

Credit card is OK. For hotels, shopping (in malls), rental cars no problem. I wouldn't use it in a restaurant. Anyway if someone scams your credit card (very common BTW) you can dispute it and you will win. You might want to call the CC company and tell them you are going to Brazil. Also take a picture of the front and back and put it in your yahoo mail account in case you need to report them stolen/call them/etc...

Don't even think of using a debit card that draws your purchases from your bank account.

ATM machines are everywhere but be careful because some (Banco do Brasil) only have $100R limit on the weekends ($50).
