Not sure what you mean by new, but if you mean new to you then you can't go wrong with anything by Gene Wolfe. He's often considered among the the best fantasy/science fiction writers and some even believe him the greatest living writer in the English language. The Book of the New Sun is generally accepted as his finest work. His writing requires a commitment from the reader that won't be present in the Brooks/Jordan/Rowling series. If it is too difficult to follow you might try the Wizard Knight books which are more accessible but very enjoyable.

Also I'd recommend China Mieville's Perdido Street Station and The Scar to sci-fi/fantasy fans. His writing is one interesting invention after another and he never attempts to be a Tolkien copycat.

Hope this helps!

Try Terry Goodkind, I've been enjoying them for a while.
Also might want to try....
-Artimis Fowl Books
-any book by Tamora Pierce
-The trilogy consisting of The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass
-Anne McCaffery (sp?) has a bunch of dragon/magic books

That's the best I can do for right now. I keep feeling there's some I'm forgetting, but those are some really good books, and a few of those authors have a bunch of books to read. Good Luck!

I second what other people have said, David Eddings (Fantasy with swords & sorcery) is a wonderful author.

The Artemis Fowl series is very entertaining (rich boy who's a genius, wants to become a master thief, runs into elves who have high technology).

"Song of the Lioness" Quartet (4 books) by Tamora Pierce. Starts off with "Alanna the First Adventure." About a girl who wants to be a knight, and her twin brother wants to be a sorcerer, so they switch places and she pretends to be a boy. Many swords and sorcery type adventures, as well as the difficulty of growing up a girl while pretending to be a boy.

All other books by Tamora Pierce are also excellent.

If you've already read Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and Harry Potter, then some books you could try are the His Dark Materials series (by Philip Pullman) and the Swords series (by Fritz Leiber).

I've got the perfect thing for you as you seem to like fantasy, dragons and heros, "Meesha, Guardian of Grand Mountain". You can find it on Amazon.com or at www.redearthpub.com It will be a series of five, the second book, "Meesha and the Temple of the Jaguar Moon" has just completed and should be in print by the end of the year.

1. Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini
2. The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud
3. His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman
4. The Black Magician's Trilogy by Trudy Canavan
5. Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer
None of these are new, but all are enjoyable.

My friends and I love the books by Dave and Leigh Eddings: the Belgariad (5 books) and the Mallorean (5 more books, I think). Dave Eddings has other books too.

You could also try Raymond Feist.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe is also a good read.
