Why do people (The average person) have little respect for fast food workers?

Everytime someone wants to offend somebody they say "You must work at a fast food restaurant". OR.....say things like "If you fail at school your favorite saying will be".... "Do you want fries with that"? Why no respect? They work hard.

I managed Taco Bells for 10 yrs and did time at Wendys and Jack in the Box. The perception that fast food workers are menial stems from the fact that almost anyone can be taught to do the tasks. What few people realize is the sheer devotion required to do the job right. I would say that for every incompetent(well, semi-competent) worker I had, a serious argument could be made for the management being responsible for their lack of dedication. Once I got into mgmt myself I weeded out the few hopeless cases and got the rest to take pride in their jobs. Most of my people were dedicated to a fault, working long hours, putting up with verbal(and sometimes even physical) abuse from customers who were barely qualified to tie their own shoes without a diagram and instructional video to help, and they usually did this for crappy pay. Yet the next day there they were, ready to work, with a smile on their face. Did you know that only air traffic controllers and firefighters have higher job stress ratings than fast food managers? US DEPT LABOR. I, personally, was robbed, had food thrown at me, had customers threaten me with guns, had my car vandalized, had people tell me how much of a lower life form I was, had welfare mamas who couldn't form a sentence with correct English sneer at me, had cans and bottles thrown at me and God knows how many times I was cussed out. And I was expected to be cool, smile and make these asses happy. Which I did for 10 years. My health was failing( a common occurence in fast food due to the high stress levels and bizarre hours) and I moved on to greener pastures. Sometimes I miss the sheer fire of it all, though. But then I remember the day-to-day and I realize how much happier I am as a "High-pressure" salesman. And how much easier it is.

2. Their way of talking is hard to understand sometimes, due to their rush
3 many fast food workers are new to the country and became a citizen in less than a year while others have been waiting for over 10 years

In general, people no longer have respect for people who work hard.

I used to work in fast food and trust me I was called names by people who "went to college." I worked very hard at my job and worked myself up to the manager position in a little over a year.

My dad graduated from college and CHOSE to work in fast food for 27 years. People looked down on him which to this day makes me mad.

People who have no respect for fast food workers have no respect for themselves. No one is beneath anyone. We should thank the people who take our orders because if it weren't for lazy asses, fast food workers would have no job at all.

i know. i posted a question similar to this not that long ago. I work at fast food and I have had people(customers) actually say things like that to me. I think they should have respect because for one we respect you and for two we are slaving in our HOT kitchen to make YOUR food. And this job isn't easy. It dranes you emotionally!

Well, most of them have no respect for their costumers or the service they are providing. They usually act bored and are semi-incompetent. The remarks are simply reflecting the demeanor of the majority of fast food workers.

probably because those people saying that stuff really want to work there and they are jus jealous cus they have to pay full price for their food!!! lol SUCKERS! : D
