I think children can begin assuming regular work responsibilities when they're eight. I realize this is not a popular assumption anymore. However, farm children, for example, are expected to take on duties at a very young age. I think we coddle our children too much nowadays. I understand that circumstances vary from town to town, but I think there exist opportunities for children to do even small jobs and get paid for them. You just have to find them. To be honest, I've known eight-year-olds who are more industrious than some 15-year-olds and 15-year-olds who are more reliable than some 20-year-olds. It all depends on the person.

A lot of kids will start with babysitting at around the age of 12. I feel that as long as it doesn't interfere with their grades then after the age of 12 is okay. Some kids may have small jobs that they do before the age of 12, if they are able to handle the responsibilities then I think that it is okay

Well as soon as they are capable and as soon as they have a interest in working.I think its builds good work ethic. My fiancee started working part time at a gas station when he was 14 and he has a awesome work ethic because his parents taught him to work for his own money-clothes etc. But even before that he was working as a kid on a farm. That's why farmers have such great work ethics because they are taught at a Young age to have responsibility.

I think summer jobs are good for kids in high school....however, I really wish I hadn't worked during all of high school...because I missed out doing alot of stuff with my friends and it was hard enough to stay focused.

I'm going to let my kid get a summer job when she's in high school...but during school I want her to enjoy just being a teenager.

It depends on the child and their needs. If they are spoiled and need to understand the value of money, then as soon as it is legal in their state. If they work hard at home and help with the family alot, do well in school or play alot of sports, then maybe the summer off is what they need.
