I am said to have a very soft / pleasent disposition but very firm when it concerns work and very professional in my work so I expect the same from my Head Of departments, unfortunately my kindness to them is always goes to waste!arrrrrrrrrrgh

Most times people are just looking to get ahead and if they realize that you are an easy ladder to climb, they will climb. These "busy" people claim to have no time for small things, such as an act of kindness, and just want results and more times than often to get these results out of sub-ordinates, it is by some forceful means. They think that if they themselves are kind/soft/easy to get along with, it would be more difficult to pull up someone who probably is not working up to standards. So they cut out any sign of weakness/kindness to instill fear in others.

Some people mistake kindness for weakness and that is a big mistake. Whether or not they give you recognition for the job you do and your professional matter in carrying out tasks, I'm sure they recognize your strengths and are aware of your potential even though they may not tell you so on a regular basis.I would consider the people you work with as coworkers rather than as friends. It's better to keep your work life and your private life separate if you can.

Unfortunatly these people are obviously not friends. I have the same problem you do and often get used and abused. I have learnt that some people are just going to use what ever they can to get ahead and don't think or care about who they hurt along the way. Just learn to be more cautious and careful and pride yourself on being a decent person.

You must not be as professional in your work as is said--or as you believe--if you are not getting honesty from your workers under you. Work at not being so friendly/pleasant and make your expectations clear! One gets back what we send out. Maybe your kindness is perceived as wishy-washy????

I know what you mean. It's because they haven't learned teh hard way that just being appreciative and respectful of something is key. The only thing left for thos epeople IS to learn the hard way.

You have an ingratiating manner that may irritate your friends-that is- if you have any. I picked up on it when you chose to say 'our kindness', implying that you are in some sort of 'class', or desperately wish to.
