How do people make MMORPGs? Games like RuneScape?

There are many different programs which can be used to make games, and most of them require some experience in "coding" (the process of making programs using the computer) and knowledge of computers themselves. The program used to make runescape is java, which is probably too difficult to use for someone with no formal or prior experience. For someone who is interested in learning to make games, I would start with a simple program for fun. Scratch is a game-making program which is free and is downloadable off the net from squeak.org.
