What you need to do is add a wireless router between a broadband (high speed internet) modem and your computer, so that the Ethernet is unplugged from your PC and plugged into the new wifi device, which then has its own additional Ethernet plug that lets you hook directly to your PC. So now, instead of one device between your computer and "the street" (if you will), you'll have two.
There are cheap solutions like a Netgear Wireless 4-Port Router for $35 at Amazon.com, but I instead suggest that you spend a bit more and get a wireless unit that supports both the old 802.11b and newer (faster!) 802.11g protocols. Here's what you can use: Linksys Wireless-G Router for about $60.
While you can configure the wireless network with a password, since the Sony PSP claims to support the various secure wireless protocols, my experience is that it never connects properly. Instead, I suggest you leave it password-free, though it's not particularly secure. If you have good neighbors, you're probably safe...
Anyway, the details of configuring the wireless router are specific on the model you buy, so I can't help with that part of the question, but I hope this will let you get going in the right direction.
