Stalin was a strong man at a time when that was what Russia needed. Yes, he did things that people today think are dreadful. But they forget that times have changed and unspeakable acts happened everywhere. That doesn't make what he did any better, but it does put them in a clearer context. It is a pity that his reputation has become so blemished, because along with the bad, he did a lot of good.

It's never bad to be interested in something for the purpose of learning.
Stalin was a bad guy. Very, very bad.

Stalin is an important figure in an important time in history, so he deserves interest. And yes, it's hard to find good things to say about him. His harshest verdict come from his old communist comrades. Lenin didn't trust him, Trotsky fought him tooth and nail, and all the rest was killed by him after show trials. You will find it hard to find a communist or socialist who will think positively about Stalin, apart from some diehard Maoists.

Considering he ordered the murder of more people than Hitler, yah. Bad thing.
Interested in a historical figure is one thing. Weird obsession is something else.
