respect is something that is earned, not just merely awarded owing to position or title.

All you need is one bad cop and the rest of them are looked upon with fear and revulsion

Since you used the word general, I will agree with you 100 percent. These guys and gals put their lives on the line everyday and almost everyone here has needed their help at least once. They have helped me with flat tires and car wrecks. They would be the first I call if I am in trouble. I have a lot of respect for the Police in general. Here in Austin, they let you smoke weed at public venues as long as there isn't any violence.

I have no issue with the police and considering the work that they do - for the little pay they receive - yes - respect is a small request. However, we do need to clean up (world wide) and ensure that people who should not be in law enforcement are working the streets and toting a gun!

i definitely agree, police are doing the job they are paid to do. One that many people would never hold nor could they because they would never put up with the abuse or the work conditions or the hours, the stress.

If you need help 24/7 they are there, putting up with drug addicts, drunks, mouthy teenagers (and adults), scared kids, beaten women and children, car crashes, rape victims, families of murdered people, victims of all types of crimes and they have to hold it all together yeah sometimes they snap but oh well they are human and everyone is entitled to a bad day sometimes right. We all have bad days at work.

Like they say until you have walked in someone Else's shoes DO NOT judge them.

Well I believe in mutual respect. Most Police abuse their power and don't respect the citizens that they are supposed to be protecting. Just because they hold authority doesn't mean they can disrespect other people. They should give respect first if they want to receive it.

yeah. they go around protecting us, but yet every one hates them cuz "they gave them a ticket". you got a ticket cuz you deserved it. not cuz the police are unjust or hate you. without them, the world would be chaos. although i do think that there are some officers that are. i just think that in general, we should show them respect, and if they do something to lose it, then dont respect them anymore. but for some reason other than giving you a ticket.

well...that depends on if they want to start doing their job or not. They spend all their time parked watching for people who arent wearing their seatbelts when they could be catching real criminals. I think they are already getting the respect that they deserve.

I was married to a cop, and saw how little respect they got, but I also saw how two faced they were. Definitly one of those 'do as I say, not as I do' theories. I wouldn't say that all cops are like that though.
