Sorry, I didn't put this in there before.

I plan on getting a Ph. D. in Psychology, but would like to get a MD, and become a Psychitrist if money allows.

The very nature of the subject 'philosophy' is such that it also keeps a 'watch' on the nature of 'mind', where as psychology is concerned just with functioning pattern of mind, and not the philosophy aspect of it . So the advantages are proportional .

The benefits are numberous. Many concepts in psychology come directly from philosophy ( Self concept by Hume/Descrates for starters). I can't really think of a disadvantage other than you may have more pre-reqs to kill on a philosophy minor than something like social science.

i did just that when taking a History of Ideas course in
britain.Had to take 2 psycology courses,as if i were
majoring in that subject; the course was over subscribed and
all were told that some wouldnt make it!
Minoring in philosophy and majoring in something else, one
would get the benefit of a course they liked/enjoyed,offset
by the somewhat tedious, historical and rather rigid ideas
and theories that have taken hold in philosophical practise.
(its rather like darwinism in science- you can struggle against
it but take-it-or-leave-it,thats what the vast majority of scientists are taught, and currently accept). And some philosophy is codified(shown) in mathematical language;as
if that gives it some authority and reality! If you want more
direct info, see Sir karl Popper's large volume-if you can get
it- where he replies to his critics.Although from the last
century,it shows what the cream of university philosophy is
(still) all about.

no count in case you do a minor or substantial is as much as you. yet i might advise it. My lecturer replaced into telling my classification that philosophy majors are certainly in demand interior the job marketplace. So in case you decide on for, you're able to do a double substantial and you gets calls coming in like loopy once you start up up job looking.

If you plan on a MD, your better minor would be pre-med. Plilosophy would be good if you wanted to be a psychologist.
