I'm 16 and am really scared have notice that my testicles (both of them) are not completely round. They both are slightly irreguar shaped having a slight dip in the middle of the outermost side (left on my left one and right on my right). The "dip" isn't that deep but noticible by touch; and is almost the full legnth of the side of the testicle - its as if the top 30% has got fatter on each testicle. Is this testicular cancer? I'm really scared and any help would be appreciated.
Jack

They're meant to be like that, mate. They're not round.

It could be cancer go to a doctor. Other times it could be a hydrocele a type of hernia [a swollen sack]. A hernia when the little holes the gonads fall through when young is obstructed. It is normally caused by the small intestine entering the hole where the gonad blood supply and tubes are.
Another condition can be varicose veins of a testicle. all these can be moderately uncomfortable if not dangerous.
Testicular cancer can be a very serious condition. A friend of mine died from it.
Hernias and varicose veins need attention and can sometimes be fatal. they are very common - but men are so conscious about that part of their body they do not seek medical advice early enough. Men walk around with hernias for decades. It must really cramp there style with the other gender.

First- Relax. Testicles aren't round, they aren't regular and usually they aren't even both the same size. So nothing to worry about there.
Second- Testicular cancer is very very rare in anyone as young as you- so RELAX.
It is a good thing to 'get to know your nuts' though- to know what shape and size they normally are, how they feel (soft/hard/knobbly etc). In years to come you should check them regularly for any changes- Swellings, growths, change in size- anything, because these changes can be, as you obviously realise, the first sign of some serious problems- and need to be reported to a doctor right away..
So keep checkin' 'em -and tell your mates to check theirs too- sounds mad, but if we all did it a lot of lives would be saved.
VERY Good Question.

The following link shows you how to do a proper self-check, and gives lots of good info on the subject

Testicles are actually more egg-shaped than they are round. It would be very wise of you to consult your doctor if you think there's something unsual about your testicles. A doctor can give the professional assessment and care that you won't be able to get on a message board. Oh, and don't be shy or worried about showing your privates to a doctor or about discussing this with him. Doctors have seen genitals a gazillion times and are used to men talking about genital concerns.

Don't worry Jack. It's good your alert but testicular cancer is characterised by lumps (and not all lumps are cancerous).

Testicles aren't perfectly round, and furthermore they all look slightly different to other men's.

Get a physical and get it checked. (Cancer creates a bump or bulge not a dip or divot)
Realize that testicles are not round but rather more oval "egg shaped" It's natural to have one larger than the other.

Balls are like boobs, all shapes and sizes.

They sound perfectly normal to me, but it may be wise to visit your gp, not only can he put your mind at rest, but he can also show you how to check yourself properly and not get worked up about it. Dont worry, as a gp he has seen balls of many ages, shapes and sizes so swallow your nerves and go get checked out and educated about self-checking for the future.

If him showing you now how to check properly and be aware of what is normal for you can help you learn what to spot, any problems you may have in the future can be quickly found by you.

xxx

P.S. sparky - thats a lovely image of your flat balls in my head now, thanks!

They are never round, rarely symmetrical and often slightly irregular! Get your GP to reassure you, and yes you are probably paranoid.
