First off, He/she should be up front to the spouse. Tell the spouse that they had an extra marital affair. This will of course make their spouse mad but the spouse has a right to know. Otherwise, if she breaks it off with the affair, the offended may go to the spouse to cause a rouse...Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy!!!

She has to confront this person probably by phone, you don't know the reaction the other person may have. Just to be brief and say I know that you are a great person and I know that out there is your perfect match, but I don't think I am the right one for you ,so I decided to let you go so you'll find that person.Then, find a new job. Also, she has to completely stop answering any phone call, emails, text messaging,etc. Any kind of communication, no matter how desperate or sad or angry the other person becomes. I'll hope this work out for her.

If you are really convinced that this situation is not good for you and you really want to call it quits, you can. It's not pleasant or easy; but it can be done.
You should stick to your decision to end it and follow through. That means no more contact whatsoever...for no reasons and under no circumstances.
As for the words....There is nothing written in Emily Post's etiquette book....I guess just saying "I've thought it over and I think we should stop seeing each other" is enough.

New job. And sometimes that doesn't even work... sometimes what you really have to do is just be mean about it and break all ties with the person. If they try to be persistant, instead of trying to explain yourself nicely, sometimes you just have to be cruel and tell him to get lost, and then stop responding to any of his emails or phone calls.
If she's serious, then she should be ok with breaking all ties w/ this dude.
