The outside A/C unit is no longer good in my house -- I already had 3 service technicians come and look at it, and all told me that because the unit is almost 30 years old, and the leak is nearly impossible to detect, it would be best to replace the unit from a 3 ton to a 4 ton (my house is 2200+ sq. ft).
NOW HERE IS MY QUESTION ...
Would I be able to run the gas furnace in the winter yet the A/C condenser is "unservicable"?
The reason I am asking this right now is so I can plan ahead for the winter months -- BTW I live in Houston, TX.

ALSO ... I forgot to mention, I can't afford the outside condensor and I have 3 window units working pretty well in keeping the house cool.

There is no problem using your gas furnace when that time comes around again. It is controlled from the sub-base of your thermostat. Just operate as normal when heating is called for. ( and save your pennies for a new a/c package when you can!)

Yes, the gas furnace, if in good working order can be used. It is not affected by the AC condenser. ( unless it is a "heat pump") 4 tons is way too big for your sq footage. 3 tons is more than enough.

the gas furnace will work OK
as long as it is functional
the outside unit is on a different circuit
their is a solenoid that is electrically
activated when ac is called for
as long as you just use the
heat side it should work fine

If you have a gas furnace yes you can. It is June. Don't you need cooling right now in TX?
