Yikes! Just remember that it's times like this that you have to stick together. Not being the breadwinner is a huge blow to the man's ego, so now you are going to have to be more supportive than ever.
Get ready, because he is going to be grouchy, testy and probably down right hateful until he gets a new job. But just be patient. It is NO one's fault in your household. Just remember that it is not rally him acting that way..it's his stress talking.
Hang tough..I am sure you will make it through. We have all been dealt these financial blows before. There are agencies everywhere, even in small towns, that can help you out until the next job/paycheck comes in.

First, no notice and no pay may be a legal issue and he'd better find himself a lawyer. Second, he needs to go to unemployment right away. Even if he was 100% at fault, he can still receive unemployment. That's what it's for and he can collect. Once he has done this, give him a vacation somewhere he wants to go, camping, fishing, his family, whatever he wants to do. When he gets back, then start the job search all over again.
Don't nag and please be patient. Most men define themselves by what they do, their jobs. This is probably devastating for him, so be patient, but there are still a lot of proactive things to do.

Just be there for him - us men tend to place a lot of our identity with where we work. So he will be going through a tough phase.
And obviously be prepared to budget a bit different in what will hopefully be in the short term.
