Well with English like yours, it is going to be hard to convince anyone of anything, unless you are good at speaking some other language.

To claim that poker is 'all luck' is just asinine. In 1987 Johnny Chan beat all the top professional poker players in the world to win the World Series of Poker main event. The following year he did it again. In 1989, he nearly did it again, but ended up finishing in second place.

If poker were all about luck, how can you account for a single person winning such a tough tournament so many times?

Whether you personally consider poker a sport or not is largely irrelevant. But by definition if a person earns a living doing something, they are a professional. Therefore if a person earns a living at poker, as hundreds of people do, then they are professional poker players.

But don't worry if this intellectual sport offends you so, there are plenty of others on TV where you can watch some hunky sweaty men running around a field in tight clothes. Whatever floats your boat.

I'm sorry to tell you that poker is not all luck at all. Poker is a game of great skill, and it take a huge amount of thought and strategy to play it well. Now in the short run or on any hand it can be all luck and no skill, but over the long run it is 80% skill and 20% luck. You can't outrun the odds, in the end they always even out. The long run in poker is over 2-3 years in most cases, so in the short run donkeys and fish can do well, but they don't last over the long run, i've seen a fish win a poker tourney before, but to have long term sucsses you must play more skill then luck. You can't play hands out of position, and you can't just hope to get lucky all the time. Why do you think you see the same pros at the final table all the time? Do you think that they just have more luck, no, they get the same cards as anyone gets, they just know how to use skill to play there hands. So in the end skill plays a huge part in people either winning or loseing. I would just love for you to come play in a no limit game with me, you are welcome anytime my friend...lol....

Poker has a lot to do with luck but you obviously don't understand that there is also a lot of skill involved. I agree with you that it is not a sport but professional poker players have every right to call themselves pros. I don't consider snooker a sport but I understand that it takes practice, skill and understanding to be a good player. It's the same for poker. There are many different elements to the game, it is not just about the cards you get, it's about how you manipulate other players and use your hand to get the best possible results.

You won't be able to convince anyone that poker is all luck. The best poker players are those who can analyze their environment and draw conclusions based on the strength of their hand, pot odds, knowledge of his/her opponents and their betting habits and when to bluff/push a pot.

Any player can get lucky in a tournament, but to do that over the long haul you absolutely must have skill. Look at Allen Cunningham, 5 bracelets already at age 30? And he's won a bracelet in each of the past 3 years. That's incredible. He is arguably the best poker player on the professional circuit right now.

It's not a sport but you are crazy if you think poker is all about luck. Takes skills to win a tournament, you have to know how to bet and when to bluff. You sir are no poker player!

You probably won't be able to convince many people, because your statement is only 1/3 true.

1) Not all luck.

2) There are pros.

3) Not a sport. (1 out of 3 ain't bad I guess).

You have to bluff and consider if the other players are bluffing, so it's not just luck. You can get a lucky hand, but you have to use skill to win.

So anyway you won't be able to convince people of your argument unless they don't know about poker's rules.

Sure luck has a part with the game but there is also a lot of other factors. Its all about odds. Are the odds (or luck) in your favor? Based on that do you fold, hold, or increase your bet? Do you bet heavy trying to push people to fold or do you bet lightly to keep people in the game? It is not a sport like football or baseball, but it is very strategic like chess.

If there are no professionals, how do you account for all the professional poker players? "Professional" can be applied to any occupation at which one can earn a living. I am a professional computer programmer.

You can't because although luck IS a factor there is some skill involved.
Knowing when to hold and when to fold is a finely honed talent. As is the skill of bluffing.
