How does the insurance work, certain amount of games as a deductible? How much would this cost?

It's not unusual for contracts to carry insurance. This is the primary reason Albert Belle and Kirby Puckett did not officially retire until their current contracts had expired -- their teams were able to continue collecting insurance reimbursement. More recently, the Astros tried to collect on Jeff Bagwell's deal, but IIRC that was denied since he went to spring training in 2006.

I don't think they have a deductible for number of games played. But the reason the owners insur. their player is to help protect the owners, bottom line (money)this way is a superstar gets hurt, and can't play, the insurance would cover his salary. They do this with guys coming back from injuries too!

believe it comes in their contracts. hence why so many teams don't allow players to own motorcycles and do certain kind of stunds (bungee jumping, jumping out of airplanes etc.)
