I'm making a striped scarf, and i'm knitting it on circular needles and making it a tube. when i go to add the colors for the scarf i just grab the yarn and start knitting i don't tie it. When i look back on my stripe where i added it is uneven. Is there anyway to make it an even stripe, or since it is a tube will it always be this way?

You're talking about the little jump that forms when knitting circularly and you start the next round. Go to www.knittinghelp.com for help with this. The lady who runs this site has all kinds of short videos showing different techniques and one of them addresses this problem.

The good news is that no you don't have to have this jump. My fave 2 methods are;
1. if knitting with pure or near pure wool, split both yarns in 2 length ways by about 1" and felt them together by slightly wetting & rubbing vigorously between your hands. This will create 1 continuous thread, with 2 colours for 1" which should give you a couple of sts.
2. Knit the first st of the new colour with both yarns, this will give you 1 2 tone st, which will hide the change better.

Since it is a tube it will always show where you started with the new colour, but you should not see difference in the size of the stitch, only in its colour.

if your knitting in the round you should have a marker at the end of the row this then indicates where the begining and end is so your new colour would always start there
