1] no white or ivory
2] no black - it's so in, it's out
3] don't wear the colors of the wedding party.
Pick a color that flatters you and makes you feel good.
Wear shoes you can dance in.
Bring a wrap or 'fancy' jacket [ lace, eyelet. or velvet ] because the temp always varies at weddings/receptions.

You can wear black if it's relieved by other colors, especially to evening weddings/receptions. I've worn a 'little black dress' with various colored accessories to different weddings.

Don't wear something too fancy, either. No showing anyone up. If you can, try to avoid wearing the exact same color as any attendants.

Dress for the season and the type of wedding (fancy, city wedding will be different than an outside, more casual one).

I went to a wedding yesterday. Most of the girls where wearing bright coloured sun dresses with large floral print on them. Polka dots were also a big hit, lots of girls wore black dresses with white polka dots or pink dresses with white polka dots. With a nice pait of wedge sandals sun dresses look really pretty!

Ohh and I don't think you should worry about upstaging the bride obviously everyone is there to see the couple you wont be the one everyone is worried about. If the bride is friend or family they will be happy you came!

Well first you should check what the theme of the wedding is if there even is one and go for something within that theme.
If its just a nice simple summer wedding, your best bet would to wear a simple sun dress with nice light colors (so you don't stand out too much) and some nice heels or sandals.

I wore a red and black dress to a wedding. I didn't get shunned, there's nothing wrong with black. I'm also a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding and we have straight black dresses. Just don't wear jeans.

You can wear black if it is formal...depends on the setting...outdoors: casual attire is usually fine
I guess you just don't want to upstage the bride...definitely no white...and no short short skirts or super low cut necklines!!!

remember, its not about you so keep it simple. focus it around the bride. why don't you give the bride or groom a call and ask them what color scheme the wedding is and wear something that complements that color

Go dressed. If your not part of the wedding march,a gray suit will do. Light brown also helps.
