Hi please ignore the content, but can anyone tell me if the grammar is wrong and why thanks mike

As I understand it New Labour has created a new idea of balance: balance of power between workers and employers; and the balance between liberal pollicises and the investment in the NHS and education.

Semicolons are used to separate items in a list. You don't have a list here -- you are contrasting two different ideas. Dump the semicolon. Check the spelling, too.

It should read:

As I understand it New Labour has created a new idea of balance: balance of power between workers and employers, and balance between liberal policies and investment in the NHS and education.

Can't really explain why - I learned my grammar and spelling 40+ years ago! - but I can assure you this is a good way to present your idea.

yes, lose the semicolon after employers
