I want to start taking 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5HTP) as a supplement to help with anxiety. I am also taking Necon birth control pills. I know that taking St. John's Wart can interfere with birth control, and I just want to be sure before I start taking these herbal supplements.

I couldn't find anything about 5HTP interfering with your BC pills. But it's always good to check things out with your doc. before taking any any herbal supplement, no matter how benign it might seem.

I don't find any info about 5HTP. Since it's an amino acid, my guess would be no, but that's only a guess.

You might try also taking some GABA, too. GABA is another amino acid that works to promote feelings of calm . Studies have indicated that low levels of GABA function may lead to increased anxiety. Anxiety is reduced when GABA function is increased. You can find GABA at good vitamin and health stores. If you can't find it, get L-glutamine instead.
