I heard a story recently that said primates are continuing to evolve at an accelerated rate while humankind is actually slowing down! I think it was determined at a genetic level, showing how the genetics have improved for primates at a much faster rate vs. the same time period for human genetics.

Sorry, I don't have a link.

I just thought it was interesting, and I began to wonder whether it's because humans don't discard the weaker members of our species (to death) the way that all other animals in nature do.

We're so intent on saving everyone, and if instead we let the weak just die and stop reproducing, we'd actually be accelerating our evolution.

Then again, isn't that what Mengele theorized?
So never mind.

Who says they aren't? It takes a long time to evolve. It isn't something that we usually witness in a lifetime. However, recently something did hit the news about a monkey or ape that was seen teaching it's young how to use a tool (not like you buy at the store).

All animals, including humans, adapt to their surroundings. A good example is in humans. People in Arab countries often have a nose that is shaped in such a way that it filters out the sand more effectively. That is a more recent adaptation since at one time it wasn't so arid in that reagion. But like all animals on this planet, it didn't happen overnight.

bearing in mind that it took millons of years for them to evolve to what they are now, they probably are still evolving but not enough time has passed for it to be noticed.
Dinosaurs were on the earth for much longer than apes and humans have been so there could be a lot of evolution to happen yet.

Who says they are not evolving?? Considering that evolution occurs over the course of thousands to millions of years and that humans have only been studying/keeping records of changes in species for a few hundred years I think it would be incorrect/to early to assume that a species is not evolving!

They never did: fossil remains of the earliest apes are the same as present day fossils.
Only in texts written by athestic persons (such as Darwin) indicate evolvement.

What do you mean? They are evolving. You just can't see the evolution happen overnight. It might take tens of thousands of years to see a noticeable difference.

when you are 1000 years old you can suggest evolution does not happen. it's a slooooooow process. just look at human evolution, we have grown in height over the last 100 years but it may only average a few inches.

is this evolution? 1000 years ago we were very similar to what we are now. 10,000 years ago whose to say what we were like

Who says they aren't? One feature of evolution, as opposed to mutation, is that it occurs over time.
