hormonal fluctuations, in my opinion, are the main cause of depression and/or the inability to deal with life's stressors. that, and lack of good sleep.
to me it's easy to feel happy if there is an absence of agony in my life.
if I get depressed, there is usually an extremely serious reason for it. but it was not so when I was younger when my emotions were batted around by the winds of hormones. it's so hard growing up!
so, there is no secret really. until the hormones settle down, the best solution to depression is physical movement and taking control of as many aspects of your life as possible so at least YOU are in charge and YOU decide what you will allow in your head and in your space.
ironically, depression seems to rob some people of the necessary will and motivation to take that sort of control over their situations.
It really helps to have a project you are interested in and can look forward to working on.

If I'm down I put it out there in thought that I would like relief from my depression and wait. I know that the depression will eventually pass once my mind comes upon the insight I need to move on from it.

To speed this process along, I take responsibility for and question my stressful thoughts to see if they are true. So far, no stressful thought has been true. The best way I found to do this is through www.thework.com (free and full explanation of how to effectively inquire into the mind).

I really try to listen to and honor my feelings and speak my truth while understanding that they still are my feelings and I'm still responsible for them and the actions I take. But, since they exist, I am 100% entitled to feel what I feel.

I do what I enjoy most and learn how to enjoy or come to peace with what I cannot change by questioning my stressful thoughts about those situations.

1: If you think about it emotions can change our attitude. Furthermore I believe attitude is an emotion that we as an individual have 100% control of.
2: You need to fill your heart and soul with positive thoughts. Have you ever heard the expression "you are what you eat"? Well I believe it to be especially true when you are feeding your soul. Dont let negativity be on your mental diet, even though it is everywhere. Negativity can be fed to you from even your family or closest friends, like when they say you cant do something or that wont work. Who are they to say, if they have never done it. ie; if you like money, read about it. Why would you take financial advise from someone who does not know how to make money. Dont look up to people with jobs, look up to people who create jobs! Create a positive mental diet and you will always feel that way.
3: Make goals, long and short, and strive to achieve them. Remember to be like the postage stamp and "stick to it"
4: If I am very depressed, personally I drink. I do not recomend this to anyone who does not have a big heart. I commony do this to dicipline myself into picking myself up,(usually in the morning). In life everyone gets knocked down, the winners just know how to get back up.

What do i do when i am depressed? Here's my secret. Depression comes from the belief that you cannot change what's happening to you or your future. Well, there are some things you cannot change but you can ALWAYS change your perspective. Why is it that 2 people can have the exact same thing happen to them and while one person is depressed, the other person feels sad for a moment then brushes it off? Because the second person has learned that few things in life are worth sweating over, really. Plus dealing with any event in a positive optimistic way is the best way to come out with positive optimistic outcomes. Lastly, you have to open yourself to many new experiences, try things that scare the sh*t out of you because that is the way that you will finally learn that no matter what happens to you, you will be just fine.
So having said this, when you do get sad or afraid or angry, open up to yourself and find out the event that made you sad and why it has affected you the way it did (because remember not everyone will be sad or angry or depressed over that same event). for eg, my bf broke up with me. Why am i sad? Because i love him and i miss him and he's the best and now i don't have him anymore. Well someone else may look at that same situation and say, my bf broke up with me and that is sad because i feel lonely and hurt but I will rather go through this painful period than be with someone who for some reason or another does not want to be with me. I will learn from this so that i do not make the same mistake in my next relationship. Big difference is looking at the positives and benefiting from the experience. It is ok to be sad and feel that sadness but don't linger in it. My theme in life is that nothing in this world is worth my personal happiness so i do not wallow in things that make me sad. Also i learned from previous experience that i can be sad all i want, cry, tear my hair out etc and still the outcome wouldn't change so why put myself through all that? Not worth my happiness.
Turns out, not worth your personal happiness either

Believing in God isn't a need to its a alternative. I am a christian and am real glad. Having this to feel in I am extra of a sane man or woman while anything dangerous occurs and am extra at peace daily. There are many different rewards believing in God has to present than simply everlasting lifestyles. You have a optimistic outlook on lifestyles, you'll take care of matters higher, you suppose extra optimistic understanding that God is for your facet in all matters, you'll get up and fall asleep understanding that if that is your final day that you're going to be with God with certainly. So sure I am now not best real glad however real peaceable, positive, and powerful in God.

I don't get very depressed. I'm always looking forward and at the solutions. There's no reason to get stuck on a problem and just dwell on how crappy things are. Always be thinking of a way to change things for the better.

Just remember that the only way to be sure of failure is to never try.

when i'm down and out, i watch a funny movie or go see a comedy set. if i'm really troubled about something i go for a hike or go running because i can be alone and yet i'm not idle, i'm doing something to keep the rest of me from reacting to the way i feel. if i'm feeling sorry for myself i read out of the mother teresa book that i always keep in my purse. it helps me to think about people who are worse off. mostly i just try to keep life in perspective. look at everything i've been through and just be greatful that i'm not where i was and i've come this far, even if its not the most glamourous place on earth, even if i'm not some scholar or professional, i've worked my butt off and i'm so lucky to be alive and have the opportunity to enjoy life.

Here is what I do. I'm a Christian.
When I KNOW I'm down, I KNOW that God KNOWS I'm down, so I just wait until he zaps me with some joy.
I found the answer...........God and his love for me.
I just wait until he touches me and he does every single time.
I am always happy because I know if I do get down even for a moment, he will fix it.
All I have to do is ask and wait.
