what about it? I will assume you are asking: what is body language and how do we study it?

Body language (meaning the postures, spatial relations, facial expressions, body actions,....) plays a big role in intuition as it gives us messages about the other person that we can interpret at an intuitive level. We are always communicating verbally and nonverbally.
Every time you've met someone and felt "This guy/girl is cool" and didn't know why really. It felt like "gut feeling" sort of things. Most of the time, body language has a big part of responsibility for this "gut feeling."

body language or Nonverbal communication has been studied for years in the fields of psychology, anthropology, and sociology. Recently, linguistics has been using the theories and techniques in studying body language and how to include it in a valid ethnography. When analyzing body language, one must not forget spatial relations also known as Proxemics.
Proxemics is the study of the effects of spatial distance between persons interacting with each other, and of their orientation toward each other. Personal space, together with social perception, leads to an interesting dynamic in how space and its uses affect our behavior.

introduction to reading body language

A research was done at Pennsylvania university to know to what extent body language affects the impression that people build on you, or to put it in another way, on what exactly does the impression you leave on people depends, and the shocking results were that people build thier impression about you based on:

* 55 percent gestures, posture and movements)
* 38 percent on your voice tone (tempo and frequency)
* and only 7 percent on what you say.

that is a total of 93 percent for body language(body language is formed of gestures and voice tone) and only 7 percent to spoken words. That means that, 93 percent of what you are saying, does not come out of your mouth.

this is a link if you want to learn what each gesture mean

Body language can expose the entire essence of a person in a matter of moments. Whew! Pay attention to what your body is signalling to others, and make sure you agree with its message.

There is no such thing as "body language". This is like the Descent of Man, another theory advocated by Darwin.
Myth: people who are honest will look you straight into the eye.
Fact: this is usually indicative of a liar. (Go see a used car salesman and see where he looks!)
Myth: people who smile are happy and trustworthy.
Fact: this is usually indicative of persons trying to take advantage of you or a person who commits heinous crimes.
Another example: the sign used in the U.S. to mean "O.K." means...well, something about your behind south of the border.
The sign for "love" in the American Sign Language means B.S. to the average American. Strange, isn't it?
