The paper is manufactured that way and arrives at the printer's on huge drums. You should check around and see if there is a printer in your area that produces magazines. It's a fascinating process.

Yes, there is, my friend. Glossy paper also comes in different weights. i.e. the lower the weight, the thinner the paper.
