I've been playing soccer since I was 8( now I am 15), and ever since i joined a select team, my confidence level has really shot down, and I havn't been able to play up to my potential. Are there any ways you guys can think to help build up my confidence again ?

I'm sixteen and i have been playing since i was 4. i have had the same problem multiple times. I think it is just that your head gets out of the game sometimes and you get into bad habits. However, i found a specific coach of mine has a way of getting into my head and setting things straight then i can play better than ever. You might want to try finding a coach and getting some one on one time with them...have them look at your form and ask them to do some mental drills with you.

There is a lot to Sports Psychology. I highly recommend the "Inner Game" books by Tim Gallwey.

In every human endeavor there are two arenas of engagement: the outer and the inner. The outer game is played on an external arena to overcome external obstacles to reach an external goal. The inner game takes place within the mind of the player and is played against such obstacles as fear, self-doubt, lapses in focus, and limiting concepts or assumptions. The inner game is played to overcome the self-imposed obstacles that prevent an individual or team from accessing their full potential.

The books have been around for a while so you should be able to find one to borrow or buy one in paperback.

i've been playing since i was 3 when i move i felt the same as you. you just need to first prove that you can do it. for confidence , just fake it for a while to let the other guys think you are then you can build up a rep and soon that confidence will be real.

practice practice practice...and keep telling your self that you can do it.
