The Evian Conference was convened at the initiative of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in July, 1938 to discuss the problem of Jewish refugees. For nine days, from July 6 to July 15, delegates from thirty-two countries met at Évian-les-Bains, France. Not much was accomplished, since most western countries were reluctant to accept Jewish refugees. The conference failed to pass even a resolution condemning German treatment of the Jews, a fact that was widely used in Nazi propaganda. The lack of action further emboldened Hitler, proving to him that no country had the moral fortitude to oppose Nazism's assault on European Jewry.Were Zionist somehow asking for the Holocaust?

I hadn't heard of the Evian Conference. I had to read about it and learned something. You've way over simplified the issue of that period. Nevertheless, I found this concern from the conference to be very foretelling. The troubles in Palestine were predicted long ago if Jewish immigrants were allowed to settle there.--
"It is true that at one time Palestine was inhabited by the Hebrew Race, but there is no axiom in history to substantiate the necessity of a people returning to a country they left nineteen centuries before …… If a 'Hebrew Home' is desired, it would not be too difficult to find a more fitting territory than Palestine. With an increase in the Jewish population there, grave, new international problems would arise."

Who says that they were interested? I hate to say it but I think that if it wasn't for the Holocaust that the exodus and the independence movement would not have been able to come to fuition in Israel. Maybe they never envisioned it going as far as it did and then they could not do anything about it. There's a lot that plays out behind the scenes that we probably won't be privy to in our lifetimes. Who could have envisioned Hitler going as far as he did or with such brutal efficiency. Granted if he didn't have the cooperation of most of Germany's major corporations he would have been able to manage it. I can't see that the Zionists were asking for it at least not to the level that happened but maybe something was afoot. Lately, I wouldn't put anythng past anyone to do. It defies my senses to even think that the Zionist could have forseen the horror of the Holocaust coming about from their actions. I don't see it but I don't think that they would have failed to take advantage of it.

Nobody fully comprehended what Hitler "was" going to do. In 1938 he was treating them like dirt, maybe killed a few hundred. Nobody could conceive the gas chambers. People did not want war, WWI still made people cringe.
