Is it accessing the interent even when you're not? Run a anti-virus and anti-spyware check on your system to see if there are any backdoor trojans or anything else a potential hacker would use to gain access. A good free anti-virus program is AVG. Another good one is Avast. For good anti-spyware, check into Windows Defender or Spybot Search & Destroy. Also, go to grc.com and do a security port scan. It will scan and try to gain access to any open ports you may have.

Heres a good way if you have wireless or probably any other internet, and you click on the computer with the waves in the task bar, a window will come up, look at the activity section and make sure your not using any p2p programs or are surfing the internet, if the sent and recived bytes are changing, it means something is using your internet connection to send and/or recieve files.

If you have a firewall on the computer, can you get a log of outgoing information? If an unknown application is sending data, then your a zombie.

Another way is to look at the send/receive lights on your router/modem/switch... If nobody is using the computer and those lights are blinking on and off, odds are something is going on. Is the hard drive being accessed for no reason (you would hear it)?

Just like cory c stated. The article also stated to check your "sent box". If your computer was spamming like the ones the FBI is searching for, your sent box would be overflowing!
