I normally make my compost pile around 8:30 every morning. Depending on if I have chinese take out for dinner, normally determins if I'm going add to the pile that day. If I have a light dinner, I don't normally compost again until the following morning. In the event your compost pilings begin to overflow you should consider a product like Tums, or Rolaids to prevent too many problem. Good luck with your composting....I like Angle Soft!!!

Shi is bad.
Anything that was "Meat" is no good. It attracts rats for one thing. All your veg. waste (Leftovers too if they were boiled).
Not much grass cuttings unless you mix it with a lot of newspaper.
Hair from your hairbrush, eggshells. Put some twigs in there too. You can buy starter kits - but save your money and put some soil from the garden in there. Leave the lid off for the first week so the bugs can get in. Then let the process begin.
In summer, stuff decomposes quickly. Turn the stuff (With a garden fork) if it starts to get slushy. Be careful when using a metal fork, you may burn your hand. temperature in a good composter can get to 76deg Centigrade. Don't know what that is in F but it's 3/4 boiling!! :-)

OK first thank you for saving the world.. !! ..
next - take all those things that are not protein and put them onto the pile. include used coffee grounds and tea bags. the shell from eggs. all peelings bread bits are good but no butter or peanut butter. that rotten grapefruit from the frig. vege peelings etc. for every 6" of kitchen stuff add 6" of soil from the garden. also add all grass trimmings. same rule for every 6" of trimmings add 6" of soil. add a little water don't make it float but never allow it to become desiccated. this will make the best compost in a very short period of time.. ( 6 - 8 weeks) stir the pile every week and your cookin.
when the compost looks like soil add it into your garden or flowerbeds and watch it grow.

The rule usually is, Nothing that walks on earth and is a breathing animal, But fruits and things that grow in the ground are good! Except for citrus like lemons, oranges, limes etc.
