After Democratic President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act.

And why does the Republican Party harbor minority haters to this day, using "god told me to do it" as their excuse for such ongoing bigotry.

Hardly patiotic or religous,no?

Actually, it goes further back. The party that invented this was the WHIGS, now known as the republican party. GW and the boys had it all figured out. Write some bull crap that the people could swallow ( The Constitution) and continue "business as usual" screwing your slaves, committing horrible acts against humanity, institutionalizing discrimination, and making a way for white society to prosper on the backs of others, while stating all along that it's the "Christian way" 400 years later GWB following the same path, doing the same thing all in the name of God. But, God knows while others don't. Justice will come, just keep knowing that and you'll be alright.

I feel that your information is a little misleading. It is interesting that a higher percentage of Democrats in Congress voted against the act than Republicans.

Original House version:

Democrats: 153 yes, 96 no (39% no)
Republicans: 138 yes, 34 no (20% no)

Senate version:

Democrats: 46 yes, 22 no (32% no)
Republicans: 27 yes, 6 no (18% no)

Senate version in the House for final passage:

Democrats: 153 yes, 91 no (37% no)
Republicans: 136 yes, 35 no (20% no)

It would seem that your conclusion that "racists flocked to the Republican party in 1964" would be invalid. The 1964 Civil Rights Act was overwhelming supported by Republicans and northern Democrats and overwhelmingly opposed by southern Democrats. I will note that all 10 Southern Republican Representatives joined 87 of the 94 Southern Democratic Representatives in opposition as did the lone Southern Republican Senator along with 20 of his 21 Southern Democratic counterparts.

Learn the facts and stay away from over generalization.

Actually, most racists were Dixiecrat's. Republicans just want you to work for what you have. I am far from a racist and have an ethnic background that would make your head spin. Your characterization of a whole political party as racist is in of itself BIGOTED. If you were historically attuned, you would realize that Lincoln wanted to pass a law very similar to the civil rights act, but he was assasinated. His succesor, Johnson, a DEMOCRAT, and a TRUE RACIST, did not support it and as a result we had Jim Crowe laws. We harbor no minority haters. It seems to me that anyone who wants someone to work for what they have and not look for a handout are arbitrailiy called bigots and racists by liberals. No one ever gave me a ******* thing in my life, I have worked for what I have. We are all people and the sooner PEOPLE LIKE YOU realize this, instead of crying foul and racism at every opportunity, and then used jaundiced historical analysis to back it, then we would all get along better. Just because I don't believe in handouts based on race, sex, whatever does not mean I hate or dilike people who are'nt like myslef. I am in the army for godsakes. Try racism in the army, you won't last long. I have seen people go to jail over off the hand racist comments. We are a much more tolerant institution then most give us credit for. I just won't give credit to you or anyone else for free. You have to earn it.

Funny, if you do your research you will find that a much higher percentage of republicans, in both houses, voted for the bill than democrats. It seems to me the democrats only string along minorities and never allow them in the game.
The current republican administration has more minorities than any I can recall. Whenever someone comes along, usually a republican, who is willing to tell the truth and not care about political correctness (a democrat malady), that person is immediately called a racist. The dems certainly don't want them to start becoming successful at things, then minorities wouldn't need the dems to save them (and vote for them).

Racism has been a big part of the Republican party for a long time. Check out the History of the KKK and you will find the the Republican party was a big part of it each time it had a major growth or rebirth. Hate and fear are the platforms of a lot of republicans. It make them popular in many areas of the country especially the places where education is lacking.

This post clearly shows the lack of history taught in classrooms today.

The Civil Rights Bill had a higher percentage of Republican voters than they had Democrat voters.

In the Senate, the margin was 82% of Republicans vs. 69% of Democrats. In the House, the margin was 80% Republican vs. 61% Democrats.

Nearly every Democrat who voted against it did so because of their racism including KKK leader Robert Byrd and his Klan leader father, Al Gore Sr, (father of manbearpig Al Gore) and Bill Clinton's mentor Arkansas Senator Fullbright all voted against the act.

Several Republicans who oposed it like Barry Goldwater did so because he felt it was not the role of Federal Government to intercede in such matters.

The truth is that Goldwater had a rich history of championing civil rights, including his success in desegregating the Arizona National Guard before President Truman had even done so with the U.S. Armed Forces.

In the Senate, Goldwater strongly supported both the 1957 and 1960 Civil Rights Acts. Although he eventually regretted his vote, his opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was based strictly on political ideological grounds. As a strong conservative, he believed that two of its sections, Title II and Title VII, unlawfully overextended the role of the federal government.

waittttttttttt a minute..... If I am not mistaken, the Democrats were the racist ones. And a large percentage of Democrats refused to sign the Civil rights bill. ( I am NOT a republican, I am just stating facts)

Funny, last time I looked Robert Byrd and Jimmy Carter were still Democrats. That's one KKK Grand Dragon and one anti-semite that don't fit your characterization. I do recall Strom Thurmond denouncing his racist ways and moving from the Democratic Party to the GOP. After all, there's no place in the Democratic Party for a former racist.

Because the Democratic party turned their backs on the racist and the republicans welcomed them with open arms, they need every vote that they can get.

So you are DISCRIMINATING against the Republican party because you feel as they are RACISTS? That means you like to STEREOTYPE people! Hmmmm, you don't sound any better than you are portraying them to be.
