Generalisations are quite often as much nonsense as stereotypes.
Is a specific man equal to a specific woman? The answer depends on the criteria, and the area of dominance and superiority.
It is different in different cultures and countries because woman and men develop differently in line with the culture.
What is clear is that in any battle for dominance, a status quo will only exist if there is balance. In other words where there is dominance there must be compensatory areas of subservience for there to be a union of the two.
In the animal kingdom, some spiders kill the male after mating. Are men equal to women in that species?
Equality is a balancing act. Demand equality in all areas where you are subservient, then you will find that the areas where you are dominant will be removed from your powers. The roles will be reversed, and then you will then ask the question are women equal to men?
Equality does not mean equal rights, it means balanced and shared power. For that power to be shared, one needs to accept dominance and subservience in your areas of speciality and weakness.

I'd say it depends. I think men and women are unique. Generally speaking, heterosexual men have a better sense of direction than women. Women can tell colors better then heterosexual men. Men and women just have different things they are goood at. Its really based on that men and women are just different types of thinkers to some extent. This isn't to say that no woman can tell their direction or men can't be good at recoginizing colors.
I think something to take into credit is that women sometimes want equal pay without equal work. For example women in tennis only play best out of 3 and get equal pay to men, even though men play best out of 5.

No! What is different can never be equal. Some groups of people these days are trying to make both men and women equal, but it's unnatural and overall a worthless effort.

no men and women are not equal , not even in the face of the law, just go into court sometime against a woman and you will see, women's lib, has hurt women in the social field as many men have turned against them , in the political field women are a lot stronger, because they have so many different organizations to back them, is there one political organization to back men? if so where ?
also women own 50% of all of the money in America, 50% of the land and all of the wossie, so how can we be equal??

Hello,
(ANS) Women are NOT equal because we (men) have created an unequal society & culture. Why? because of Patriarchie which has existed for well over 2,500 years and I don't perceive that its changing much. Post feminism either.
**Men & women are not equal sadly & I'm not sure they will ever be as long as men stay in control of most things in our society.
**Sadly, I'm sure woman would make a better job of things given half a chance but they have rare been given the chance. (excluding the pseudo dictator thatcher of course, who betrayed women too. And did untold damage to this entire country and Blair just continued her policies).

Holistically yes, but in reality we are all different and each one of us will see things in a different way depending on our own worldview, experiences and perspectives.
What is sad in the UK, is that in these so called enlightened times when women are largely no longer belittled in the media, that the tables have now been reversed and men are the new figures of ridicule. Many young men will acknowledge that their forefathers behaved incorrectly, but are now dismayed and confused to find that today's enlightened women feel that the only way to assert themselves is to adopt the attitudes of men from yesterday!
Many young males do not know whether to act with their male instincts or try to find their feminine sides; whichever one they choose they never know how it is going to be received by their female counterparts. Is this a factor in the alarming UK male suicide rate?

as einstein once said - ' everything is relative'
- and this is to jason btw men have more upper body strength than females thats how it works - thus they do best out of 5 instead of 3 der
women are supposed to have more strength in their legs than men..or so ive heard :)
to newton man - how about the sport of birthing a baby? oh thats right women go through hell while men play sports all day? - get real man women are just as good at sports as men are sure they have their strengths and weaknesses but most of the main sports that we have in america are built on men's strength - upper body for the most part - women's soccer is good last i saw. (which does require leg strength ;))

No, of course not. They are different and it's a good thing.
As to whether they should be given equal opportunity and paid equally for similar work, of course.... but not because they're women. Simply because equality of opportunity should be equally applied in all cases.

No one is equal to anyone. We all have different talents, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
If you are talking about in the eyes of the law, then yes. We are.
