"Real names" come from History and the bible- if your wondering.

Seriously do not know. On a different but similar note:
I love that line in Mean Girls(the movie with Lindsay Lohan) when Tim Meadows is talking about how his sister named her son Anfrany. (if you haven't seen it, watch it. It's hilarious)

Real Names don't have to come from the Bible. Not everyone is Christian. Maybe a child's name came from someone of their ethnic group's history and culture. Fake is not an option for names. There is no such thing. For example, a name from the Bible could be fake. It's made up, wasn't it. I happen to think that these imaginary names are really pretty. Maybe a child's name means something from their own culture. Take Mei-Lee, for example. It means "Pretty" in Chinese, but some people don't know that. They stereotype this name and use it for every Chinese girl in a story. Don't be ignorant. The world is a global place. Cultures interact. Start living in the 21st century, lady.

I don't get your question to be honest with you. I don't know what makes a name real versus fake. Just because you don't like the sound of a name does not make it fake. Some of the best names used by people today do not come from history or the bible but instead started out as a "FAKE" name or made up names out of someones imagination. How do you explain the popularity of names like Aaliyah, Kennedy, Maddison, Jaden, Aiden, Megan? I don't think I'm going to find too many of them in the bible. Sure you could say Maddison and Kennedy were presidents so that was history but I don't beleive their given names were either, so someone had to decide one day that those were acceptable first names not to mention first names for a girl. Becides, its not just a minority thing to try to find "original" names for children. If you don't beleive me look at these names: Saffron, Everest, Emmerson, Treva, Kenz, these were all names that have been considered as possible baby names by not minority people but white people looking for this same originality that you're bashing. Its wrong for you to sit here and classify this as a minority problem and to be honest I don't see why it even concerns you. If you have no intention of never naming your child something like that then great but you have no right to cast judgement on someone else because they want to. I respect your opinion but I think this is one of those cases where it would have been better kept to yourself.

There's no such thing as a "real name". You are wrong and need to shut your big mouth. Not all names have to come from History or the Bible. If God said that, I missed it and so did the rest of the world.

I have no idea! My daughters name is Brenna, it is a 400 yr old family name and people are always asking me where did you come up with that? It drives me crazy so I went with Peter another family name for my second and now I get the same question with the added "it is nice to hear a normal name for a change".

I don't get it.

You are a moron. You think all the 'real names' are in the bible? So what about the Chinese---all these centuries and they are not supposed to use names they like? Where were the first names from? You know what, this is a waste of my time...

I think you are stereotyping minorities. i have a white friend named Shaniqua. Minorities wanna be different , who wants to have the same name as everyone else. My mom named me Brittany and i hate it. "Minorities" want to be different, after all during slavery they were given names so why cant they be original now and instead of questioning it, be happy and try it. I am not saying go overboard some of these names are crazy, but it doesnt hurt to be different. Real Names dont have to come form the bible, it depends on your religion, and names from history are boring. i have a cousin named Nevaeh (NA-Vey), if you noticed that it Heaven spelled backwards. This name has meaning, she almost died so sometimes the new names people come up with mean something.

They are not "fake" names. They are generally newly created names (but some are family names). There is a difference.

Part of it is cultural identity and part creativity and part individualism. Unfortunately, it works against the child in the long run.

And, Oasis does come from history and the bible. An oasis is a sanctuary/waterhole in the desert.

names are supposed to be different I don't feel it's a cultural thing people are just deciding to step outside of the box and be more creative than before.

I personally named my child a biblical name but on the other hand I could care less what someone names their child it's their personal preference and the sooner you realize that the better off you'll be.

Since you stated that all "real" names come from the Bible or history, I am assuming that you are a master historian / theologian and have read every single written word in the world in all languages past and present to determine this. Just to make sure that you are not posting something dumb on Answers.

Any name is a real name. You don't have to like those kinds of names, but making a statement like "real names come from history and the bible" is ignorant. A name can come from anywhere.
