i know somebody very close to me, and she is very sick. she recently found this out and wanted to get surgery, but couldnt because she doesnt have enough money to do so. i blame this on the government, because as hard as she works, the government wont help people if they dont have money to support themselves, and this is suppose to be a strong loving nation?? people from around the world want to come here because they think its great being here, sure it is if you come from a bad country, but if you lived here long enough, it is very difficult to survive because of the damn government. from other countries, people will help you regardless if you have the money to pay them. i think the government is terrible towards the innocent people dying or being severly hurt.

So you seem to be saying that your friend needs surgery and you want us to pay for it.

If she really does need surgery there are many assistance programs that will pay for it. Stop whining and do a little bit of research.

Or are you going to let her die because you are to lazy to do some research?

No, the government should not pay for the surgery. Why do people think that the government should pay for everything? And, if the US had socialized healthcare, it doesn't mean that your friend will get the surgery. Ask people in England or Canada. A lot of times the government doctors deem the surgery "not needed at this time", or they put the patient on a waiting list. Your friend should go to any emergency room, she cannot be turned away for any reason. If is in need of surgery, she can get it. But, the hospital will send her the bill.

Why is it the Government's responsibility to take care of her? Where does her responsiblity end? I work very hard to pay for the insurance that I have, and it is MY fault if I let that lapse, and MY responsibility to keep it in place. If she is not working, then there are many, many social programs that can help her if she is as ill as you claim. You blame the Government for our not having universal health care, but it is the people that have indicated that they do not want it. The Government is not some faceless ediface - it is US. Universal health care is hideously expensive, and doesn't work particularly well, anyway. People like to point to Great Britain or Canada as great examples of socialized medicine, but when you talk to people that are actually living with that system, with it huge waiting lines and minimal or no elective surgeries, it doesn't look so good.

I feel sorry for your friend but when you say the government shoudl pay for your friends operation you are saying that the people should pay becuase the people are the gov. We cannot pay for everyone to get the operations they need or we would be bankrupt as a country and America as we know it would not exsist. Instead of writing yahoo answers go as charities for money if you contact enough of them they may help you. The church would be another great place to look too. Don't blame the government. It is not their (our ours) job to provide whatever people need. I know this sounds harsh and I will pray for your friend.

why didn't you sell your house, take out a loan, or work a job to help pay for it? Or campaign against the 12 million illegal immigrants that cost us over 50 billion a year in medical cost? I think just about any hospital would do the surgery and let her pay it out. I think maybe you just want to be mad at someone who has what you want.

If someone is severely ill, they can present to the local emergency room. From what I understand, a hospital cannot deny treatment because of inability to pay...especially if it is a county hospital or other rural type. And now they want to give illegal aliens our social security....when they can't even legally hold a job in this country. What sense does THAT make? But I'd bet my bottom dollar that every one of them can apply and be accepted for Medicaid........

Are there organizations that help with the illness your friend has? Is fundraising for her an option?
Not everyone is cold and heartless, however when it comes to the government either you are poor and they give you handouts or if you try to do for yourself they don't give you a helping hand.
Many hospitals will allow you to apply for charity care, even if you work and have income.

Have her go to the emergency room. They MUST treat her, regardless of whether or not she can pay, and regardless of if she has insurance or not.

But America does not have socialized medicine.

You're exactly right!
There's no good reason not to have universal health care.
I've heard people say they don't want socialized health care because then they might have to stand in lines longer. But if we really cared about each other, wouldn't we be okay with standing in line so that everyone has access to help?

It's truly immoral not to help someone if you can just because they don't have money!

It is not true that hospitals have to do surgery if you need it.I was refused surgery in Nevada when I needed it because I had no health insurance.
