a broken engagement, she moves south 3 months ago we're now communicating better than we ever have and I'm going to visit her with her blessing. we've made a lot of progress the past 3 months

It can happen, but why did you two break the engagement? Until you get over that specific hurdle, the crisis or issue that caused your breakup, you're not going to succeed.
