United States it's next year, Great Britain it's 2 years time. But at other time of the year they'll be bi-elections.

Think the next general election in England and Wales is sometime in 2010. You can check this out at the Parliament website.
Between now and then, here in London, we've got the London Assembly elections. Some prats in the House of Lords want to stop Ken Livingstone standing for a third term. Where do they think this is, the United States?
The British have never had a revolution and we do not have a written Constitution either. We have an open and free democracy and anyone, no matter what, can stand for election as many times as they like.
In any case, my neighbour, who just happens to be a London Cabbie told me in no uncertain manner before Ken got elected the first time, that he did not give a toss who the mayor of London was, so long as it's Ken Livingstone.
My neighbour like myself, is a true Blue Tory. Frankly, I would not be seen dead voting for a Tory mayor for London. It's bad enough that we Tories have the majority of the seats on the London Assembly without having the mayor's office as well.
Someone has got to put the breaks on and kick up a storm from time to time. This is where Ken comes in.
No matter what, if Londoners have their chosen mayor taken away by some unelected gonzos in the unelected House of Lords, then stand by to received the full fury of the London Mob. Burn down the House of Lords. See if I care!

Sometime between the end of July 2007 and 6 May 2010, if you mean the next UK general election. The government can call an election whenever they want but it must be no later than five years and one day after the previous one. The date is normally announced six weeks in advance to allow time for campaigning.

I reckon the first Thursday in May in 2009 if the usual four year cycle take splace. However Brown might be tempted to go to the country earlier to get his own mandate so maybe in May 2008 or autumn 2008?
