Unless you are indeed interfering with your husband's job performance, then I believe your husband's boss was out of line and I am surprised that your husband would share this information with you given its offensive nature. Was your husband accusing you of the same thing or was he just sharing what he couldn't believe the boss said? If it was the former, then you need to be sure that you are not interfering as he said. If it was the latter, then perhaps your husband may need to be careful about what he shares about your relationship with his boss in the future.

Your husband can't distance himself from his boss. He's his boss! It's his job, it's the workplace, not the playground although lots of workplaces are like that.
You, however, can distance yourself from his boss. If he persists in trying to get the message through to you that your husband's performance suffers at work, ask him straight out how you can change it. Then follow through.

tell tht boss that the realationship is none of his business and he needs to stay out of it. if he thinks he can force his way into personal matters, let him know he IS WRONG.
dont like, yell at him (your husbands boss, here) but politely let him know your husbands his own man and makes up his own decisions.
and besides, dont let it get to you (your husband loves you, thats why you guys are married)

were they friends before he worked there?i was friend with many of my coworkers before I became their boss and we had no problems really it was just the opposite, we could tell when the other had something bothering them and were able to help them do better at their jobs
