Plan ahead! pump enough milk to get through the night and possibly the following morning. Dont over do it, and then when you get home, pump, and throw that batch away, and do the same in the morning. you should be fine after that.

It takes about half an hour before the alcohol starts to get into your milk, so while you are having a drink at home or just before would probably be safe if you have eaten something recently. Of course a weaker drink would mean less alcohol in your system, but be aware that as long as the alcohol is in your blood, it is also in your milk. Just make sure you aren't feeling the effects of the drink before you nurse. If you are impaired in any way by the alcohol, it's in your milk and will affect your baby.

You say that you want to go out and have a couple drinks and you dont have to pump and dump. You should know that alcohol in your milk doesn't remain there. It works the same as it does in your blood. Once it's out of your blood, it's also out of your milk. So only pump if you are going to miss a couple of nursings and want to keep up your supply or to relieve any engorgement you might have while you are away from your baby. You can also pump before you drink if you want to have some milk on hand to feed your baby if you feel like you're still going to be intoxicated at the next feeding. Don't think you have to do it because alcohol is going to stay in your milk long after you've been drinking. You don't have to get rid of any milk. It doesn't work that way.

feed your baby or pump right before the party, then wait at least 4-5 hours after your drink to feed your baby again. I believe that is the recommended time for allowing (one) drink to pass through your system.
If you feel you need to have more than one or two small drinks make sure your baby has enough milk to supplement until your body has processed all the alcohol.

Before you have anything to drink, pump your milk and store it, that way you can have something to drink and your baby still gets milk. You should ask your doc how long the alcohol will stay in your system so you know how many feedings to store (in the fridge/freezer)and how much to pump. What a good mommy for asking first, and congrats on your baby! Best of luck!

Pump ahead of time. If you have one drink it can take between 2 to 3 hours to be completely out of your system. The more you drink the longer it takes.

If your child breastfeeds every 4 hours if you have one drink, you should be fine to breastfeed 3 hours after you have finished your drink.

Alcohol appears in the breastmilk in much smaller quantites than it is in the blood. Even the stodgiest of health organizations says 1-2 drinks is fine.

Other rules include: "If you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed" and "If you are sober enough to parent, you are sober enough to breastfeed". There is no reason to "pump and dump". Alcohol does not build up in the breastmilk, if you need to pump for your own comfort that's fine, but don't think pumping will reduce the amount of alcohol in your milk. It is directly related to the alcohol level in your blood.

Chronic use of alcohol can inhibit supply, and negatively effect the infant but the occasional night of drinking (within reason) is perfectly safe.

My doctor said it was ok to have 1 drink and still breastfeed that same day or night but if you have more than one or plan to get drunk, then you need to pump before you drink and then pump and dump after you drink.

breast feed brfore you drink, but that doesnt mean you can get wasted. a drink would be enough to where it will be out of your system for the next time you have to breastfeed

hello from one mom to another, whenever you have a drink just do a "pump and dump" meaning if you drink a 6 oz pump 6 oz ..that is what my doc told me to do..basically it gets the booze out of your system. You can even ask your doc about this too! Hope this answers your question
