Honestly, I've never stuck around longer than one good, long, complete day. It'll keep you busy for 3 days, but you definitely don't need that long to enjoy the best stuff and move on.

Three days is going to be plenty. Most people only go 1 day and about one quarter of that many go 2 days. Usually anyone who goes three or more days has a season pass. If you're going 3 full days get a season pass. It's going to be $100 plus $50 for soak city if you want it. A daily admission is $41.95. So if you get the CP only pass you'll save over $20 per person.
On your first day you'll want to get there right when the park opens (preferably at the Magnum gate) Then you can run/walk to the Maverick to be first in line. The line for that one has been upwards of 1 and a half to two hours.
In three days you'll be able to ride all 17 coasters (you'll need to accompany a kid to ride two of them: Jr. Gemini and Woodstock Express). You'll also be able to take in all four live shows (including the ice skating one).
Honestly, I would say go to Cedar Point the first day then have a day trip to Cleveland where you can goto the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Great Lakes Science Center and maybe even catch an Indians game. Then you can come back to your hotel and goto Cedar Point on the last day.
I would also recommend staying at a hotel the last night before driving home the fourth day. I can tell you you'll get a cheap clean room at the Motel 6 in Milan (9 miles from the park and right next to the Turnpike (I80/90)
You can make reservations at http://www.motel6-sandusky-milan.com
If you prefer to be closer to the park try the Quality Inn and Suites, they have good rooms, a restaurant, bar, off-track betting, laser tag, virtual golf, bowling and tons of video games. Their slogan one year was, if you were any closer you'd wake up on a roller coaster. Call them at 419-626-6761

It's smart to plan a 3 day trip in advance to Cedar Point since you can never predict the weather.
I went for 3 days and it covered everything I wanted to do and then some.
You'll have enough time to ride all your anticipated rollercoasters/rides and then ride your favorites of those over and over again.
It also gives you enough time to visit Soak City if it's hot enough.
Of course though, 364 days isnt enough days to be at Cedar Point. It's a wonderland there. :)

Yes, I went to Cedar Point for 3 days about 6 years ago. It was a blast. If you only want to go to the amusement park, I would say go for 2 or 3 days. If you go for the waterparks as well, then I would go for 3 or 4 days. I think that 3 days should keep you busy without boring you or wearing you out.

You should be able to ride everything you want to ride at least once (if not twice) if you're at Cedar Point for three days, assuming you don't get rained out -- most of the rides shut down when the rain starts to fall.

Any time at Cedar Point is worth it... 3 days would be phenominal. They have so many awesome coasters (if you're into them) That the lines are relatively great on their older (still awesome) ones. Have fun!
