i would have to say right now Jason Kidd just because he plays offense and defense. where nash is better offensivly player but doesn't play good defense his team trys to out score you. thats why they don't win in the playoffs.
in the next 4 years i would have to say Chris Paul he was having a great season and then he got hurt. williams is great but has a better team around him. so i have to go with Chris Paul.

The best point guard has to go to Tony Parker considering his break out performance in the playoffs. It's his title to lose now. This year and possibly next I excpect Parker to continue his domination. it's almost unheard of for a point guard to LEAD the NBA in points in the paint. What that basically says is that he can go in there whenever he wants to. However, I put Steve Nash up there with him because of his back-to-back MVP titles in the regular season. However, the window is going to start to close in Phoenix. I expect in the next couple years for Nash and Parker to be equally dominant during the regular season.
For the future, you have to consider Deron Williams and Chris Paul possibly breaking out the next couple years. Deron did a great job initiating the offense in Utah while Chris Paul has been compared to a young Jason Kidd. Eventually the torch gets passed. The questions are just when and to Chris or Deron?

Right now the best point guard in the league would be a tie between Nash and Kidd.
The future has such potential but I would say Deron Williams and Tony Parker, even though they are great now, they are not the best.

Nash right now- there's no question about it, he's well ahead of #2 (Parker) and #3 (Kidd)
In 4 years it's hard to argue with Deron Williams, but I'll take a long shot and say Baron Davis.

Steve Nash out shines Kidd. But Kidd is still a great point guard.

If you said who's the best "floor leader" I would definitely agree with Nash or Kidd as the current best.
Kidd has one of the best all around games in the league, is a superb defender...but is a terrible shooter (the joke in college was to call him Ason Kidd. No J." A point guard that gets you 7-8 rebounds every game without costing you by failing to get back on defense is golden. Throw in one of the best court vision in the history of the game...that's tight.
Nash is so efficient and smart on offense there's almost no comparison. BUT, as a defender...well, he's terrible. At best he's "far below average" as a defender. On one side of the ball, I'd agree he's the best.
I, for one, however value BOTH sides of the ball. With Kidd aging, Nash's defense almost a joke - I'm surprised no one has mentioned Chauncey Billups. He's a better shooter than Kidd, has a better A/TO ratio than either one of them over the last couple of seasons, has increased his apg up to top five of the league leaders. He's a fantastic defender, is smart and steady and a really good team leader. Oh yeah, he has a ring and a playoff MVP to his name, too - which neither of those other guys have. Leaving him out of the discussion, at all, is a disservice. With those three you pick what you value. Each is a fair choice, imo.
For the future, currently, you'd look to Deron Williams or Chris Paul. Paul is looking like Jason Kidd redux (and Jason Kidd in his prime is one of the best points EVER), but is also looking like he's going to suffer through really terribly teams. Deron is looking like a prototype point under a great coach on a much better team.
Tony Parker is going to get love as being one of the best guards of his era, when it's all said and done, but he's not, currently, a GREAT point guard. He's a very good player and maybe only allen iverson gets to the lane as frequently and as skillfully as tony parker (a point shooting 550 is amazing). But he's not a true, true point - and is at best slightly above average defensively - mostly due to often times giving up size to bigger, stronger points. However, he's an incredibly talented player. Just not a GREAT point guard.
Gil Arenas is a scoring guard, like Iverson, but he's one of the best players in the league. I don't recognize him as a true point, personally, but he's young and certainly going to remain very good for quite awhile.
Raymond Felton took a huge leap from his rookie year. He hasn't had a fully healthy or regular lineup since he came in the league, and if the Bobcats ever get decent he could look great. FG% is bad, though.
Just for fun, I'm going to throw out Mike Conley Jr. He's smart, strong, athletic, clutch and has played in the spotlight his whole career. He knows how to play with a dominant big man and can take over a game.
I'd also keep an eye on guys like Leandra Barbosa, who is maybe pound for pound the fastest guy in the league and learning to play under Nash. He's shown himself to be extremely efficient offensively and power packed. He's defensively slight, also though.
Rajon Rondo looked pretty strong at the end of last season - though, really not a true point either, but he showed he could rebound, dish and defend at a really strong level. He's a major longshot of being tops, though, ever.
A major longshot would be Spain's Ricky Rubio. I doubt Rubio will be in the league in the next four years but he's pretty much recognized as a basketball prodigy and the second coming of pistol pete maravich...with a rebounding touch. A name worth keeping in mind if he gets over in a reasonable amount of time.
