How can i get the sound to work on my computer?

the speaker turns on but the sound doesn't work sometimes it will make a staticy sound but I don't know why music and stuff won't work

Could be many things -

Static implies that there is a "cable" problem. Check to be sure that all your cables are connected tightly. If you've stretched one of the cables tight, it could be intermittently breaking the connection. Make sure the power connection for the speakers is tight. Could be your speakers are fried. Computer speakers are "cheap".

Is the master volume (speaker icon on task bar) turned up?

Open up all your possible applications that use sound (iTunes, musicmatch, media player....) make that the sound is turned up in all of those. Don't know why, but if the volume is turned down in musicmatch on my pc, there is no sound for any other application.
