It is up to you, but if you are virgin I will definitely suggest you to take pads. If you are not virgin than you can try tampons too, but from my point of view using pads is easier, easier to change it whenever you are, with tampons there is risk that you will not be able to take them out if they are put to the bottom...and then your doctor should help you with getting it out. It is not something that happened me, but my friends told me they had sometimes such a problem. I use pads, and feel comfortable those days of my period. There is also one more thing, putting tampons is not so easy as pads at some public toilet for example there is no way to put easily tampon, but pad you can do it really fast and easy. There are pads with some glue on the bottom so when you put then on your pants they are fixed and there is no risk to have your clothes dirty. Regards!

Pads can show thru pants of they're long, they also lose their place and bunch up, especially if you move around alot. They also usually let you to FEEL it, and that's kind of gross. But on the other hand, if you have a urinary tract infection- tampons may hurt while in.
Tampons are more discreet, and even if you're laying down, you're not going to leak out thru your pants backwards or anything. Playtex Easy Glide is actually better than Tampax Pearl because of how it opens up once inside.
I usually wear a tampon with a pantyliner, just in case of leaks.

pads because tampons are way too complicated as to put them in and if you wear a tampon you could get TSS and with pads you cant get anything like that and tampons might leak out

Tampons -you can wear anything with them. (by the way TSS is very rare and only happens if you wear a tampon for 20 hrs. or some other such stupid thing)
