It will at least show China that what they are doing is known to the world, and they can not continue to silently persecute, torture and kill people without the world knowing about it. It is also a shame to China.
The passing of the human rights flame [Human Rights Torch Relay] is very significant. The flame in some way symbolizes the lives and the wellbeing of those people who are being persecuted in China now. What we want the flame to symbolize is that we do not want the lives and the wellbeing of people to be snuffed out by the Chinese government and by their security and military apparatus. By passing the flame around, it certainly symbolizes the fact that something needs to be done in order to save tens of thousands people.
many governments are again playing political games to avoid confronting the Chinese government. He said that this must be stopped; otherwise the values advocated by these countries will be hollow

China has criticized human rights activists who call the 2008 Olympics the "Genocide Olympics," saying it is improper to "politicize the Olympic Games."

But the Chinese government has been politicizing this event all along.

Extensive use of detention without trial, censorship of domestic media and the Internet, and intimidation of political activists (including two AIDS activists put under house arrest last week) also appear to have increased.

The government has been shutting down Web sites to "create a harmonious society and a good social environment for successfully holding . . . the Beijing Olympic Games."

True. The Torch Relay is especially significant. It symbolize freedom, rights and the people. There is no point of putting on a show in China when during the torch relay, when inside China, countless of its own people are persecuted to death... its downright disgusting.
The Olympic's real meaning would be lost.

Hey now, human rights are for all.I don’t know why you think this is a good place to spew your political correctness, and gain interest in your cause; but you should be on a chat not Y!A.
The Human rights torch to symbolize ALL people in ALL countries, and as far as I am concerned the people in my own country are my first concern. There is injustice everywhere; it’s just hidden better in the USA (and china). Do you know all of the different countries that are and have been having wars and social unrest for decades, cause there’s a lot of them (not just china)? Besides they have an over population problem as it is. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing for the population to be thinned out. Use the right avenue to gain support not Y!A.
