Ivan, the observation deck on the Sears tower is open 365 days. I, personally, prefer the observation deck at the John Hancock building because, since you're not as high as on the Sears Tower, your view is a little bit better.

The Sears tower is visible in what we call the Chicago Skyline.
These are the tall buildings that line the city from a view miles away, with the Sears Tower is the "old" Amico Building (white square), the Prudential building, the State Building (angled diamond used in the Adventures in Babysitty movie) and a few more.
This is not only an observation area but it has restaurants and stores as well.
Incidently, you might want to know that the floors are not fixed and can move a certain amount of centimeters during high winds, this is a forethought to prrevent the tower from collapsing. There are also automatic window washing elements that wash the windows on a routine basis. No need for any men dangling from such heights.

Yes, the Sears Tower is a landmark. The Sears Tower has been around since 1973 and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city and around the world. I think renaming it is horrible. Willis is such a wimpy name, and like you said, naming it after a company based in London doesn't make any sense. Now they even want to paint the building silver. They are going to ruin the Sears Tower. Nobody will even recognize it anymore. It's so sad.

Yes, there is an Observation Deck on the 103rd Floor...can't go to the roof, though, but if you charter a small plane from Palwaukee Airport, you can fly around the city and see the roof.

Sure is! I was up top at the observation deck once at sunset, and it was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw. It's a must-see if you are there.
