Well, is the water salt water or fresh water? Also, consider getting and oxygen bubbler for the tank. It increases the life of your fish greatly. I suggest clownfish. They are so cute. But they are salt water fish, so you would have to use salt water.

In response to the first answer, clown fish need a lot more than salt water. They live in marine aquariums and take a huge amount of caring for. A cold water tank is a no-no.
If you buy goldfish try to get ones with the same shaped bodies, either all standard or all fancy. If you mix both the standard will assume that the fancy goldfish are carrying eggs and will chase them mercilessly to breed. Fancy goldfish are very attractive and are basically goldfish with shorter bodies and sometimes longer tails. You could also mix White Cloud Mountain minnows with goldfish but make sure you start with small goldfish or they will eat the minnows.
Remember not to overstock and remember all fish will grow, so leave enough room for that when you calculate how many inches of fish your tank will hold.

i wouldn't get any fish at the weeked as it doesnt sound like you have given the tank time to cycle. you really need to cycle your tank before you put any fish in or they will die due to ammonia and nitrite being produced from the fish and the filter not being able to cope with it.
to cycle the tank you need to set it up as if there were fish in there and it all swiched on and running, then you need to put a small pinch of fish food in every 2 - 3 days. this will start to break down into ammonia thish will then be transformed in to nitrite in the filter by bactria.(ammonia and nitrite are harmfull to fish) the nitrite then gets turned in to nitrate which can be removed by doing 25% water changes every week. this whole prosess takes between 3 and 6 weeks to happen.
30L tank is very small and there will not be much choice for what fish can be put in there goldfish need alot more room to swim as they grow so i wouldn't go for them.
i would suggest white cloud mountain minnow (tanichthys albonubes) they only grow up to 4cm but if kept in a groups of 6 or more they look really nice in a planted tank
hope this helps

Since you specify this will be a coldwater (room temperature) tank, you're a little more limited on your choices. Goldfish are one of the more common coldwater fish to keep, and you may be able to keep up to 3 fancy types as adults.
You might also want to try something a little less common - a dojo/weather loach, some of the corydoras like cooler water, or a school of white clouds, barbs (check temperature requirements of the species), or danios.

everyone says dont get goldfish but theres nothing wrong with them!! there are many fancy types of goldfish that would look good in your aquarium and be fun to watch, goldfish are actually pretty smart fish and seem to have there own little personalitys, they can handle room temp water no problem and are easy to keep. you could get a few of them. the people at the pet store will know what else can be in cold water. my fish tanks have heaters but my house never drops below about 76 degrees so the heaters never even come on, i think heaters in aquariums are a little overrated, but then i live in Arizona and it never gets cold here so maybe in a colder climate indoor temps could get lower. so far ive never had a problem with water temp.

The fantail goldfish are pretty, and come in a variety of colours. Might be worth a look.
