i ask this question a few minutes ago and answers i received needed to know my os. it is xp pro and i dont have the disc to reinstall it and i've tried the registry thing but it tells me file not found. i gotta mess here. i'm the only operator on it. i can download any programs except windows xp related. whats up? maybe this will give better info to you, anthony b and charlee

also on top of all thoes responces make shure you have all your updates it sounds like you dont have service pack 2 internet explorer and media player needs that

you have to validate that your copy of Windows is genuine.

there are trojans that remove or corrupt the file that the registry thing does.


try running a registry scan with some freeware or something.

If your xp isn't genuine you'll not be able to upgrade ie and media 11.

May be your copy of XP is a pirated version
