I was 12 years old. I wasn't afraid at all because I talked several times with my mother who told me that there will be time when I will get my period and that this is part of getting all woman characteristics. Your breasts will be kind of very sensitive these days. You might have some pains (at the bottom part of your stomach), maybe not strong for the first time, and with some light bleeding (but quantity depends on your body and hormones), because it will be the first time. In a period of year more or less you might not have your periods regularly, but this is normal, and there might be some month that you will not get one, or you will not get then at equal intervals. There is also a PMS syndrome, which is Pree - Menstrual Syndrome, and during those days (which are two-three days before your period, and during your period) you might not feel so nice, maybe nervous and it is all due to the period. The most important thing is not to be afraid, to accept is as something truly natural. These days you should take even more care about your intimate hygiene because the vagina skin is more sensitive. And here is one very important advice for you: make a list of all the questions that you would like to get most adequate and professional answers, ask your mom to take you to her doctor and talk to him/her. You will see how easy it can be when you understand so well your body and all that is going on in this so special phase of your life. And don't be ashamed to ask everything, it is your body, your life, so there are no stupid questions, and doctors will give you all the answers...OK? Regards!

I was also 11. After riding my bike, I wasn't feeling well so I was lying on the couch when I had to pee. Hello, friend! I yelled for my mom. She gave me some mini pads and some maxi pads. I started with the mini pads, but later switched to the maxis, because I was flowing pretty strong. I went strong for only one day, and then had to wear the mini pads for about 6 days. I think that's unusual. Most girls bleed heavy for about 4 days. I had cramps the second day. Midol helps. I got my next period 28 days later, and have been on schedule ever since. After 2 months I asked my mom if I could use tampons, because I knew she did. And they're so much easier and convenient. She said OK, and today I'm so glad that she allowed me too. It doesn't have anything to do with sex. So I had her help in learning how to insert tmpons. I hope your mom will let you too. If not, you can show her my answer. I'm 43, not a kid anymore. And once again, I'm so thankful to my mom for helping me through it. If your mom is not around, maybe you have a close aunt or older friend who would be happy to help you out. You can E-mail me any time. You'd have to make this a "best "answer", and keep it in a folder. Anyway, Good luck, sweetie!! :)

i am 14 and i just got mine 2day!(this morning)
everybody starts @ a different age: u started @ 11 and im 14! since i just started idk if i know 2 much yet.....but always carry pads with u in a purse! if u dont have a purse start carrying one around with you. for school if u cant have a purse(i have one-im in junior high) always have some tucked away in your bookbag, because you never know when the darn thing will start. be ready for it. get pads with wings for when your flow is heavy so the blood doesnt go to the outside and get on your underwear(not fun! lol) if u want try tampons ive heard they're MUCH cleaner.
Good Luck and welcome 2 womanhood with me now!
lol
best wishes,
cathy

I was 13 but my daughter was 10 1/2. It is simple to get used to a routine and in no time you don't really get affected by it!
Congrats - you are a woman. Be proud of what you are!
