Get a job and save up you money until you could pay for AT LEAST half. Saving up so you had 2/3 covered would be better, or hell, the whole thing! Just save, save, save. No job? Mow neighbor's lawns for how ever much a pop. Offer to even babysit your little cousins. Anything. After you've taken the initiative of being a responsible adult, you're parents may see that you can also be responsible on the road. Don't go up to them and say "hey I'll pay for half so you should be okay with it!" no no, that won't work, at least not in a classy way. Just start saving your money and if they ask why you've become so productive just say that you're saving for what you've always wanted and leave it at that. If they ask more, then tell them "a motorcycle". They will probably figure you won't really be able to do it and think it's cute. Honestly. When the time comes that you're capping off your savings goal, then sit them down and show them how much work you've done for it. Offer them the idea that you'll take the motorcyclist class and ask to be enrolled in an added safety seminar BEFORE you even start your practice hours on the future bike.
Turn this into a healthy summer project. If in the end they say no, you'll at least have the money for the bike in the future, and you can say you honestly tried.
Take care and good luck!

First thing: Buy it yourself. Unless your a filthy rich, spoiled brat that is what you should do. Nothing against the filthy rich, spoiled brats out there... but buying your own "stuff" is always a better way to convince the 'rents that your responsible enough for anything. Especially when it comes to motorcycles.
Secondly, don't listen to whoever said this (Elroth):
"P.S dont use the rear brake much use the front i crashed because my rear brake locked up and i slammed into the pavment"
That has got to be one of the dumbest pieces of advice I have ever heard! I lock up the rear all the time on my bike... but I also know how to control a skid. Apparently some people do not. Locking up the front on the other hand will get you into a ton of trouble... you don't wanna go over the handle bars - trust me. Take the MSF class before you even think about riding... please. They'll teach you all the basics... including proper braking techniques.

I am Anti- give kids stuff. In comparision, everything I have worked for and got myself is taken care of better than those I know who get everything handed to them. Second, a motorcycle is very different than your first car. It requires more responsiblity and skill to operate. If you can not work to achieve it on your own, you should not be on the streets with one.
Second, if you are a responsible person. I would enroll in a riders education class and achieve your license first. If your parents has the means they may get you one for showing your dedication by passing the riders course. The rider schools provide the cycles and helments and you will finish by taking the riders and written test..
Sorry I sound preachy, look past my attitude.

You need a motorcycle because:
It is cheap to run
A good way to learn road skills before car driving
Easy to park in the city streets
It will not take up much space at home
Find someone of whom they would approve who also has a motorcycle, a priest, a doctor, someone respectable, as a role model.
BUT
Do you have a good mental attitude for motorcycling? It demands a quiet mind to ride safely. Not distracted, flow with the traffic, no pride, no aggression, just moving along. A motorcycle is not for show, for speed, for courage, it is just for love of two wheels.

Tell them it will save them money because cars are more expensive. Plus gas prices are so high i would think they would want you to have one now days. start out with something small like a kawasaki Vulcan 500. Or a 250 honda rebel if you wanna go really small. Then when you get some of your own money you can get a 600 ninja or GSX

Um, to start, maybe earn half the money to buy it by getting some easy summer job type thing. That shows your responsible. Then make any sort of deal with your parents, like extra chores or something, to make them soften up.

Life isn't about people getting things for you. If you want it, get it. Plain and simple. Work hard, save your money and buy it. If its your money you worked for, noone can say anything and can't take it away. Besides you appreciate things you work hard for more than something just given to you.

Why should THEY get it for you in the first place? If you are an adult (over 18) and think you know what you are doing, you have the right to get it yourself with YOUR money.
If you are not 18 yet, wait till you are and get it.
What if you wanted an airplane? Should your parents get it for you?
